Fatty Acids In DIY Hair Mask For Damaged Hair
A simple mixture of ingredients can make a mask for hair. But what are the benefits? Recipe For Success: Banana, Egg, Olive Oil, & Honey Hair Mask
In addition to shampoo and conditioner and proper hair care for your unique hair health concerns, a good mask can help add moisture to your hair. Add this to your hair care routine once a month, and you’ll likely notice your hair coming back to life!
- Mash one ripe banana and add to a blender.
- Add 1-2 tablespoons each of olive oil and honey, and a single raw egg to a blender.
- Blend all ingredients well. Add an extra tablespoon of oil if it seems too thick. Apply first to the base of your hair shaft, then work the mixture to the ends of your hair.
- Wear a shower cap over the mask for 1 hour to avoid any messes and keep ingredients from drying.
- Rinse your hair thoroughly with cold water (lukewarm water will slowly cook the egg!) to fully remove the mask.
- Shampoo and condition as normal, and allow your hair to air dry.
What Other Ingredients Work For Dry Hair Masks?
There are lots of ingredients for great hair masks, and you can create your own recipe based on your hair needs. Do you have dry, brittle hair? Do you have dull hair? Do you have oily hair? Switching out a tablespoon of certain items can customize your hair mask.
Coconut oil: Research supports coconut oil for hair. The vitamins and essential fatty acids naturally found in coconut oil can help nourish the scalp and hair.4
Mayonnaise: Mayo is a mixture primarily of oils and eggs, making it a great source of protein. Applying protein directly to hair (root to tip) can help make hair appear smooth and shiny. Remember to rinse thoroughly with cool water.5
Ripe Avocado: A soft avocado hair mask can be used as a stand-alone treatment. Avocados are extremely rich in fatty acids and oils, which can help nourish hair.6
Aloe Vera: Use aloe vera gel as a source of moisturizing power in your next hair mask. Aloe vera contains free radicals, antioxidants, and vitamin A. This makes it perfect for a dry scalp or dry hair that needs some extra love.7
Yogurt: Yogurt has a rich texture and is a natural conditioner. Studies show that dairy-based yogurt – when mixed with honey – can help your hair appear more smooth and lustrous.8
Hair Care At Home
